YOUR SOFA. OUR CRAFT.Here's where
we start.
- 01Share photos of the sofa and the tight spot.
- 02We review the frame, upholstery and access before discussing the approach.
- 03The work finishes with the piece reassembled in your room.
Every sofa is constructed differently. The right approach and price depend on the piece and the access.
When a couch won't fit through the door
New York doorways, hallways and stairwells were rarely built with a deep three-seat sofa in mind. A piece that measured fine in the showroom can still stop at an apartment door, a tight turn on a walk-up landing or a small prewar elevator.
Sending it back isn't the only option. Most sofas and sectionals are built from parts that can come apart: legs, arms, backs, seat sections and the connectors between them. Taking off the right parts can bring the piece down to a size the route can handle.
How we take a sofa apart, and put it back
Every job starts with how the piece is built. We look under the dust cover, check how the arms and back are attached and find the fixings before anything is removed.
Then we take off only what the route requires, protecting the upholstery and keeping the hardware with each part. Once everything is through the tight spot, we rebuild the sofa in your room, refasten the fabric and check that it sits solidly.
Sectionals, sleeper sofas, reclining sofas and chaises each come apart differently. Clear photos help us plan the work before we arrive.
Furniture we know well
We work on sofas from the names New Yorkers buy most, including RH, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Crate & Barrel, Arhaus and Ethan Allen, along with custom and vintage pieces. If you know the brand or model, include it with your request.
Planning around your building
Many New York buildings have their own rules for furniture work: freight elevator reservations, set delivery hours or a certificate of insurance for management. Mention anything like that in your request, along with the floor and any stairs, so the day goes to plan.
A little
clarity.
01Does every sofa come apart the same way?+
No. Some pieces have removable sections; others need more involved work. Send clear photos so we can discuss what your sofa needs.
02What should I send for a quote?+
Photos of the full sofa, its dimensions, the difficult entrance or turn, your ZIP code and your preferred timing.
03Can you take apart a sectional or a sleeper sofa?+
Yes. Sectionals usually separate at their connectors and sometimes need further work on individual pieces. Sleeper sofas are heavier because of the bed mechanism. Send photos and dimensions so we can plan the approach.
04Will my couch look the same afterwards?+
That's the aim of every job. We work with the way your sofa was built, protect the upholstery while it's apart and rebuild it in your room. If your piece carries a particular risk, we'll explain it before starting.
05How long does it take?+
It depends on the construction of the sofa and the route. We'll give you an estimate with your quote once we've seen photos of the piece and the access.
06The delivery team is still here. Can you help now?+
